Why am I still being charged after I canceled my Meetup subscription?

If you canceled your subscription but you still see charges or attempts to collect payment, there are a few common reasons. In most cases, this occurs because of an active subscription, a failed payment retry, or your card may still be used to pay member dues for a group.

Here are a few common reasons why a charge might still occur:

  • The subscription was not canceled before the renewal date. The charge you see might be related to a payment that occurred before you canceled your subscription — or that occurred on the same day of your cancellation. This does not mean you will be charged again.

  • You may have multiple Meetup accounts or profiles with an active subscription. In this case, the charges you're seeing might refer to a different profile than the one from which you canceled your subscription or membership.

  • A subscription payment failed previously and was then retried. The attempted charge you see might be related to an overdue transaction that couldn't be collected before you canceled your subscription renewal. In such a case, you will still receive a few automatic charge attempts.

  • You joined a group that requires member dues. You can recognize such payments as you'll clearly see the name of the group that's charging you in the invoices you receive.

What you can do

We recommend the following steps:

  1. Review your subscription status.
You can check your active subscriptions by visiting your account's Organizer Subscription Page or Meetup+ Subscription Page

If your Meetup+ or Organizer subscription was purchased directly on our website, you can cancel it at any time:

    1. Log in on a web browser.

    2. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.

    3. Go to Settings, then select Meetup+ subscription or Organizer Subscription.

    4. Click Manage subscription.

    5. Choose Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

❗️After you cancel, your subscription remains active until the end of your current billing period.

If you see that your subscription was started on Apple or Google, you can follow these other steps to unsubscribe:

    1. Open the Meetup organizer app

    2. Tap your profile icon in the top right corner and open your Account Settings.

    3. Tap Organizer subscription or Meetup+ Subscription.

    4. Tap Cancel subscription.

    5. Follow the cancelation flow to answer some questions.

    6. Select Cancel subscription and tap the red Proceed to cancel button.

  2. Check for member dues.
Visit your Payment Made section to see if you pay dues for any Meetup groups under the "Member Dues" section.

  3. Stop future renewals.
