Sometimes you might experience issues where:
A pop-up appears asking you to subscribe even though you already paid
You continue to receive upgrade prompts even though you’re logged in as a subscriber
You’re logged in and can see your profile and groups, but subscriber-only features remain locked
You can't access the group's events even though you paid your member dues
If this happens, don’t worry — it usually means there’s a syncing issue with your account or payment. To resolve it, try the following steps:
Step 1: Verify that you’re logged into the correct account
Log in to your Meetup account
Click your profile icon, then select Settings
From the left menu, click ⚙️ Account Management
Check the email linked to the profile. If it’s not the one associated with your subscription, log out and sign back in with the correct account
💡Tip: If you use the Organizer app, make sure you sign in with the same email tied to your organizer account and update the app to the latest version.
Step 2: Verify your payment was processed correctly
Check your email for any payment failure notices
If none, you can verify payments directly in your account:
For Organizers (subscription payments):
Profile icon → Settings
Click Organizer Subscription
Select Payment History to view receipts
For Meetup+ members (subscription payments):
Profile icon → Settings
Click Meetup+ Subscription
💡Tip: if you see an active Meetup+ subscription, consider that it's not the same as having an Organizer subscription! This might be the reason why Meetup is prompting you to upgrade to create a group or manage an event, as Meetup+ doesn't grant access to those features.
For Members (dues payments):
Profile icon → Settings
Click Payments Made to see all processed dues
Step 3: Verify your subscription and the benefits it includes
Make sure the features you’re trying to access are actually included in the plan you subscribed to:
Meetup+ (for members):
Meetup+ helps unlock exclusive features and benefits that would otherwise be blurred or unavailable.
Meetup+ does not include organizer privileges (such as managing groups or events).
If you’d like to start or lead groups, you’ll need to first cancel your Meetup+ subscription and then start a group to activate an Organizer subscription.
Starter Organizer subscription:
Designed for new organizers who want to try Meetup tools with limited features.
Includes:
✔ 1 group with unlimited members
✔ Up to 2 in-person events created in the same month (regardless of when they actually take place: see Meetup Starter: The Complete Guide for First‑Time Organizers for a more explicit overview of all limitations)
✔ Up to 10 attendees per event
✔ In-app communication via Group Discussions and Event Comments
Standard Organizer subscription:
Allows you to create and manage groups with more flexibility than Starter.
Includes:
✔ Includes all Meetup+, plus up to 3 groups with unlimited members
✔ Promote your group across Meetup’s network
✔ Schedule events and communicate with members easily
✔ Appoint a leadership team to help manage your group
✔ Set member dues and event fees to help cover costs
Pro Organizer subscription:
Includes all Meetup+ and Standard features, plus an unlimited number of groups (pay per group) and advanced tools for managing larger networks of groups.
Step 4: Restore your subscription (Apple or Google Play purchases)
If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play and Meetup doesn’t recognize your upgrade or subscription renewal, your payment may not have synced properly with the app. Restoring your subscription usually fixes this.
How to restore your Apple subscription:
Open the Meetup app on your device.
Tap the Profile icon at the bottom of the App.
Tap the Gear icon in the top right corner.
Select your subscription plan (Meetup+ or Organizer).
Scroll down and select Restore iTunes Subscription.
From there, sign in to your iTunes account and then check your Subscription page on a mobile or desktop browser to confirm your subscription was updated.
👉 Tip: Make sure your iOS device is running the latest operating system, as updates often fix compatibility issues.
👉 If restoring doesn’t work, you’ll need to contact Apple support for further help.
How to restore your Google Play subscription:
Open the Meetup app on your device.
Tap the Profile icon at the bottom of the App.
Tap the Gear icon in the top right corner.
Select Account Settings.
Scroll down and select Restore Subscription.
From there, sign in to your Google Play account and then check your subscription page on a mobile or desktop browser to confirm your subscription was updated.
Step 5: Change device to access Meetup
If the issue continues:
If you’re on mobile, try logging in on the web
If you’re on the web, try accessing Meetup via the mobile app
Sometimes switching platforms resolves temporary access or sync issues.
Step 6: Reinstall the Meetup app on your mobile device
If you’re only experiencing this issue on the mobile app:
