As of July 14, 2025, Meetup Connections is no longer be available on the Meetup platform.
This is a temporary change: we’re retiring the feature as we explore better ways for members to connect.
👉 Here’s why we’ve made this change
Meetup Connections was developed to facilitate deeper friendships between Meetup members attending the same events.
However, since its release in late 2023, we’ve seen few members take advantage of Connections in a meaningful way.
So, we’re going back to the drawing board to find a more impactful way to help members foster connections within their communities. Since a complex feature like Connections adds technical complexity and noise to the Meetup experience, we’ll be removing it from the Meetup platform for the foreseeable future.
👉 If you were using Connections, here’s what you can expect:
🔹 As of July 14, 2025, you’ll no longer find the Connections tab in your account and you won’t receive prompts to send new Connections following an event.
🔹 You will retain all of your historic connections—while it won’t be possible to view them in aggregate via the Connections tab, you’ll still see all your connections in your Direct Messages, including all previous conversations.
🔹 If you’d like to connect with other participants after the event, as a Meetup+ customer you can still send them a direct message any time.
👉 We’re working on a better experience
We’ve seen that our members are genuinely interested in building meaningful relationships with their peers, but Connections hasn’t delivered the experience we’d like to provide. So, while we temporarily retire Connections, we’ll be focusing on a solution that make it easier—and more rewarding—for members to connect. Stay tuned!
