Harassment and bullying offline

Meetup is committed to maintaining a respectful and welcoming environment for all members and organizers. Threatening or harassing behavior is a violation of our Terms of Service. Here’s what to do if you experience or witness such behavior.

Harassment or threats on Meetup

If the behavior happened on the Meetup site or app (e.g., in messages, group content, or event interactions):

  • Report the behavior by following the steps in this article.

  • Our Trust & Safety team will review the report and investigate the member’s activity on Meetup.

  • If we confirm a violation of our policies, we’ll take appropriate action.

All investigations and resulting actions are confidential in line with our Privacy Policy. While we can’t share details about outcomes, your report helps us keep the community safe.

Off-platform behavior (e.g., texts, social media, in person)

If the concerning behavior occurred outside Meetup:

  • Meetup cannot moderate activity that happens off our platform.

  • For safety or legal concerns, we recommend contacting your local law enforcement authorities, who are best equipped to assist you.

  • If the person is also a Meetup member, you can still report them through our platform. We’ll review their on-site behavior and take action if warranted.

What happens after I report someone?

  • Our Trust & Safety team assesses the member’s Meetup activity based on your report.

  • If we determine a policy violation, we may issue a warning, suspend the member, or remove them from the community.

  • Due to privacy policies, we won’t be able to share investigation outcomes—but your report still plays an important role in maintaining a respectful space for everyone.
