Once a Meetup group has been closed, it cannot be reopened. However, if you're looking to bring your community back together, you can create a new group and promote it to attract members.
Starting a New Meetup Group
If your previous group was closed but you still want to organize events and engage with members, you can start fresh by creating a new group. Here’s how:
-
Log into your account.
-
Click on “Start a new group” in the navigation menu.
-
Follow the setup process by selecting your group’s location, topics, and description.
-
Set up your first event to encourage new members to join.

How to Promote Your New Group
Once your new group is set up, it's important to spread the word to gain members. Here are a few tips:
-
Invite past members: If you’re still in contact with previous members, let them know about the new group.
-
Promote in real life: Never underestimate the power of the poster. Meetup events take place in real life, so you should reach your audience in real life, too: coffee shops, libraries, community bulletin boards, or college campuses.
-
Optimize your group’s description: A clear and engaging description will help attract people with similar interests.
-
Host a great first event: A well-planned kickoff event can generate interest and encourage word-of-mouth promotion.
