Reporting spam, inappropriate content or activity

If you encounter spam or inappropriate content on Meetup, please report it directly through our platform. Our Trust and Safety team reviews most reports, and in certain cases, we may automatically block users or remove content based on reports to help maintain a respectful and safe community.

What kind of content can I report to Meetup?

You can report any content that can be considered spam or inappropriate based on our Terms of Service, including our Community Guidelines. Specifically:

  • Messages that are commercial in nature

  • Unsolicited, impersonal, or otherwise suspicious messages

  • Repetitive or overly promotional messages

  • Derogatory or mean messages

  • Offensive photos or other media

  • Harassing or bullying comments

  • Content that publicly shames or degrades a private individual

  • Impersonation or scam activity

Meetup does not allow hate speech, supremacy, or any behavior that incites hate or violence based on personal identity or beliefs.

How to Report Content

If you encounter content or behavior on Meetup that violates our Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, please report it using the Report button on the relevant account or content, or by sharing the direct link with us. This allows our team to review and take action when appropriate.

When submitting a report, please include:

  • A clear explanation of why you believe the content violates our policies

  • The exact location of the content (such as the specific URL or URLs)

  • Your name and email address (automatically provided if you’re logged in), except for reports involving child sexual abuse material

  • A statement confirming that the information you’ve provided is accurate and made in good faith

After submission, you’ll receive an in-platform confirmation. Once our review is complete, we’ll notify you of our decision. If a policy violation is confirmed, we’ll take appropriate action. For privacy reasons, we can’t share details about investigations or enforcement outcomes.

If you disagree with our decision, you’ll be informed about available options to request a review or appeal.

Content occurring outside of Meetup

When inappropriate activity—such as impersonation or solicitation—occurs outside of Meetup, for example via email, SMS, or other external platforms, we’re unable to moderate or investigate it. This also applies if the activity is reported through Meetup’s Report tools but the content itself does not appear on Meetup.

In such situations, the most effective course of action is to report the issue on the platform where it occurred. For example, if you receive a scam email, report the sender directly to your email provider so they can take immediate action.

Even if someone obtained your information from a public Meetup profile, abuse that happens entirely off Meetup must be addressed through the external platform involved.

For safety or legal concerns, please contact your local authorities.

Additional notes

Meetup organizers manage their own groups and may set membership requirements or remove members at their discretion, provided they follow our Community Guidelines.
