How to protect and secure your Meetup account

Meetup protects every login with two security layers:

  • CAPTCHA β€” every web login is verified with a CAPTCHA challenge to block automated bots

  • Strong password β€” your password must be at least 10 characters, including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols

For extra protection, enable two-factor authentication (2FA) in Account Settings β†’ Security.

If you're having trouble logging in, it may be because our system detected suspicious activity on your account. Learn more here.

How Meetup contacts you

All official Meetup communications are sent by email only, from addresses ending in @meetup.com (e.g., info@meetup.com).

Meetup will never ask you to provide bank details, credit card numbers, or payment information via email.

How to recognize a fake email

An email is not from Meetup if it:

  • Comes from an address not ending in @meetup.com

  • Asks for your banking or payment details

  • Asks you to verify your account urgently, without any prior action on your part

  • Contains links pointing to domains other than meetup.com

When in doubt, don't click. Go directly to meetup.com and log in from there.

How to report a suspicious email

Phishing emails land in your personal inbox β€” report them directly through your email provider:

  • Gmail β†’ three dots (β‹―) next to the email β†’ Report phishing

  • Outlook β†’ three dots (β‹―) β†’ Report β†’ Phishing

  • Apple Mail β†’ Move to Junk, then forward to reportphishing@apple.com

  • Other providers β†’ use the "Report spam" or "Report phishing" option in your email client

This helps your provider block the sender and protect other users.

How to report a suspicious Meetup account or group

If the suspicious activity comes from a Meetup member or group (e.g. someone sending scam messages on the platform):

From a member's profile:

  1. Go to their profile page

  2. Click the three dots (β‹―) next to the Chat button

  3. Select Report β†’ choose the reason from the dropdown

From a comment or message:

  1. Click the three dots (β‹―) next to the content

  2. Select Report

Our Trust & Safety team reviews every report and will take action in line with Meetup's Community Guidelines.
