At Meetup, we use a personalized recommendation model to suggest new events to members based on their personal preferences and past activity. In this way, members can easily discover new events that align with their unique needs and organizers can reliably reach the members who are most likely to attend their events.
This model is already very effective at matching members with events they might be interested in. However, there are a handful of ways for organizers to further boost the visibility of their groups and events.
- Craft keyword-rich descriptions. When creating event or group descriptions, include all the terms members might search for. A detailed, keyword-packed description helps your events appear in more recommendations.
- Tag relevant event topics. During event creation, select topics that accurately reflect the event’s themes and interests. These topics directly influence how the model aligns your event with potential attendees. Remember—it’s not a matter of the quantity of tags, but their relevance!
- Set the ideal time and location. Schedule events well in advance (we recommend a few weeks ahead) to give members plenty of time to discover and RSVP. For physical events, make sure the location is as accurate as possible.
- Keep your group(s) active. Regularly schedule events, post updates, and engage members in Group Discussions to improve your events’ overall visibility and RSVPs.
