  • You can’t help how popular you’ve become (don’t worry, it’s a good thing). If your Meetup group is bursting at the seams, or you want to grow your leadership team, it may be time to upgrade your organizer subscription plan from Basic to Unlimited.

When you go from Basic to Unlimited, your groups’ member and leadership team limits will be adjusted immediately, but we won’t charge you the Unlimited rate until your next renewal.

If you’re looking to switch from Unlimited to Basic, keep in mind that your groups will need to have 50 or fewer members and 3 or fewer members on your leadership team; just like when you upgrade, you won’t be charged the Basic rate until your next subscription renewal date.

    iOS App

If you started your subscription via the iOS Meetup app, you can manage your subscription via the App Store on your device.

How do I change subscription plans?
  • All organizer subscriptions automatically renew, but your subscription may expire for two reasons:

    1. You cancel the auto-renewal
    2. The credit card on file for your subscription is declined

If either of the above happens, your subscription will stay active until its scheduled expiration date. After that, your organizer account will enter a two-week grace period, during which you can always update your payment details to keep your subscription from expiring.

When the grace period ends, you'll be removed as the organizer of your Meetup groups. At that time, we’ll notify co-organizers and assistant organizers of your departure, giving them first dibs to take over your organizer role. After that, we’ll extend the invitation to all group members. Your Meetup group will stay open under a new organizer, but if no one volunteers to lead, it will automatically close after 15 days.

What if my organizer subscription expires?

How do I manage my organizer subscription?
  • Note: Organizers can only transfer group ownership via their desktop web browser.

The process of transferring ownership of a Meetup group starts with the current organizer and ends with the organizer taking over. The future organizer must already be a member of the Meetup group they will organize.

    Current organizer:

    1. From the Meetup group homepage, select Manage group.
    2. Choose Step down as Organizer.
    3. In the search box, enter the new organizer’s account name who is taking your place.
    4. Check the box beside their name and select Next.
    5. Add a custom message for the potential incoming organizer(s) (this is particularly helpful if you have not yet spoken with the organizer you are nominating about transferring group ownership to them).
    6. Select Ask selected members.

    Nominated organizer:

    1. Navigate to the Meetup group's homepage. You should be in the "About" Section from the top navigation.
    2. Scroll down to the "Members" section.
    3. Select Accept to confirm the nomination.

Once the new organizer accepts the nomination, they will be the primary organizer of the Meetup group. They’ll be responsible for all group membership and support. At this time, the previous organizer rescinds their leadership role and becomes a member of the group, and can leave if they want.

If the previous organizer no longer runs any other Meetup groups, they should cancel their organizer subscription in order to avoid renewal payments.

How do I transfer my Meetup group to a different organizer?
  • If your experience as an organizer isn’t what you expected, you can request a refund within 30 days of starting your first Meetup subscription. Just remember, refunds are limited to one per person; even if you join with a new account, you will not be eligible for another refund.

Requesting a refund for an organizer subscription payment
  • It’s always free to join a Meetup group as a member, but in order to create or lead a Meetup group, organizers need an active paid subscription. Organizer subscriptions are tied to an organizer's personal account, not the Meetup group(s) they run.

We offer two types of organizer subscription plans: Basic and Unlimited. Both plans allow organizers to lead up to 3 Meetup groups. If you're interested in organizing a larger network of Meetup groups, we suggest you check out Meetup Pro.

    Basic:

Under the Basic organizer subscription plan, an organizer can have up to 50 members in each Meetup group. It also allows an organizer to add up to three other members to the leadership team for each Meetup group. Note: The basic plan is not available to organizers who start their subscription through the Meetup iOS app.

    Unlimited:

Organizers with an Unlimited organizer subscription can add an unlimited number of members to each of their Meetup groups, as well as unlimited members to each group’s leadership team.

Under both plans, organizers have the option to change to a different subscription plan.

If you want to organize Meetups, check out the current pricing options in your area. While we aim for our plans to be fair and affordable for everyone, organizers can also collect contributions, member dues and/or event fees from members to help cover their Meetup and subscription costs.
