What have others done as far as signs?


I am looking for ideas on signage for my Meetups, which are typically outdoors in parks or at trail heads where we start our walks or bike rides. I usually just tell them to look for my car, and I have printed small signs and slipped them into sheet protectors to put in my window, but they get stuffed under a seat and ruined. Has anyone tried anything like sandwich boards? The online logo images available seem to be too small for good yard signs from Vista Print or others that print signs. I have decided that in the interim I will use an orange traffic cone to stand out, but hope others have some creative ideas. It looks like the "official" stuff is all targeted at meeting inside at a table... that isn't my group's modus operandi. :)

For outdoor events like movies and performances, I hit up the Dollar Store and buy a balloon. I tell everyone to look for the balloon in the crowd.

When we have an outdoor event like a hike or run or snowshoe outing, the host will mention that they will be wearing a specific item of clothing (e.g. pink hat, purple scarf, etc) in the "How to find us" section of the event page. If we extend that paradigm to your car, maybe you could use something like a brightly-colored windshield shade. You could probably color one yourself pretty easily.

I'm the Organizer of a hiking group. I use the very method you described - 8-1/2 x 11 in a document protector in two windows of my SUV.

I also do what Prhbha said - I use the "How to find us" to describe me or my vehicle at the trailhead or parking lot.

That seems to be sufficient -- because I also encourage timeliness. It's one of the few aspects of my events that is inflexible. When the temperature is literally minus 20 we are not standing around waiting - we start hiking/showshoeing/etc.

I haven't had to consider any alternative or larger signage (yet?). So I hope my experience is helpful in some way, and good luck in your solution.

Thanks for the input. I guess I have been over-thinking this a bit... I'll keep going as I have, as it has worked for me as well. My minor fear is that occasionally I schedule a meetup based on a recommendation, and even though I head out early, the Meetup directions etc are already in place before I have ever been to the site. I know this isn't recommended, but I try to mix things up a bit sometimes.

Punctuality is key for my group as well, in fact, I usually publish that the event will start when the last of the people scheduled to attend arrives, or at the published starting time, whichever happens first. I do offer to wait a few minutes extra if I am notified, but that has only happened once in 1.5 years.

Balloons work wonderfully. Look for the balloons on the beach, that is where we are at.

We made a sign with our meetup name on it and had it laminated. We told people where to find us and then taped the laminated sign to the table. It worked like a charm. Laminating also allows us to use the sign in the future.
