Should I provide crafting supplies and charge fee or bring their own?

Teresa

I want to start a crafting group but not sure if I should provide the supplies and have them pay me at the event,, which could get expensive. Can I provide a list of items they need to bring to the meetup to do the craft? Then I can bring some extra supplies for people that might have forgotten one or two items? All events will have supplies.

Give them a list, and create a charge for the craft package of all the things that they'll need if they'd like you to provide it instead. Set a deadline that members must reserve their craft package by, so you won't overspend on supplies.

- Choose a nominal sum that covers the cost of supplies.
- Set up the meetup as a "pre-pay" event, much the same as a Community night class.
- Providing the materials as a pre-pay arrangement will attract members because of the perceived convenience for them.
- Make sure to give a detailed account of what activities you will be doing with the group, gives attendees something to look forward to.

Try meeting at the craft store to get the needed supplies, before heading out to the location (perhaps the store has a back room you can use?)
Those who already have supplies, might be able to help the newbies choose what's best.

If you can get the store to sponsor the group by offering a discount or similar, then it benefits everyone - you, them, the store...
