Add a Video to my Meetup Group Description

Last Updated: May 28, 2015 03:53PM EDT

Adding a video to your Meetup Group's description can really help get your Members excited about the Group and it's activities. Plus, it looks great!

Click here for instructions on adding video to Meetup Groups created before 11/6/2013.

We support video from YouTube, Vimeo, and Hulu.

To start, head to your 'Group Tools' drop down, click 'Group Settings,' and select the 'Basics' option. Scroll down to the 'Group Description' section.

Just put your cursor wherever you'd like the video to appear within your description, and hit the play button in the toolbar above the description. A small window should appear. Paste the web address of your video here.

Then hit Insert.

Now scroll to the bottom of the page and click Submit to save your changes.

You can see how the video and the rest of the Meetup Group's description appears to non-members by clicking the About Us link on the left side of your group's Home page.

For Meetup Groups created before 11/6/2013:

We support video from YouTube, Google Video, Vimeo, Flickr, Ustream and Livestream. Videos must be between 200 pixels and 470 pixels wide.

To add a video anywhere on the Meetup site, the first thing you'll need to do is find the embed code for that video.

The embed code is not the same as the URL or web address of the page where you can watch the video: it's a few lines of code set up for posting the video to other websites. It's usually available in options to share or report the video.

Once you've got the embed code, you'll be able to paste this code into the HTML of your Meetup Group's description or the description for a particular scheduled Meetup.

To start, head to the Basics page in Group settings under your Group tools drop down. You'll want to scroll down to the Group description section.

Hit the HTML button in the tool bar above your Meetup Group's description. A small window should pop open. Just put your cursor wherever you'd like to put the video, and paste in the embed code.

Then, hit Update.

Your video may not show up in the preview at this point, but that's all right. To ensure that the video has been added, make sure to hit Submit at the bottom of the page.

You can see how the video and the rest of the Meetup Group's description appears to non-members by clicking the About us link in the left column:
